THICKENER AET-729
Thickener AET-729 is an alkali-swellable associative acrylic thickener and thickens instantly when neutralized to a pH between 8.0 and 9.0. Because of its special molecular structure, it has a very high thickening efficiency and a unique rheology profile. Also, the viscosity will not drop at lower pH (about 6.0). The product is provided in latex form with low viscosity and is suitable for most water-based products.
This product has the following benefits:
- Extremely easy to use and highly efficient
- Excellent workability for most applications
- High electrolyte resistance
- Short flow, very high viscosity at low shear
- Long term viscosity stability
Typical Physical Properties
- Appearance: White emulsion
- pH: 3.0 ± 0.5
- Solids: 29.5 ± 1.0%
- Specific gravity: 1.05
- Viscosity: < 100 cps (Brookfield, RVT, #1, 5 rpm)
METHOD OF USE AND EXAMPLE
If the system to be thickened has a pH below 5.0, AET-729 can be added directly with gentle agitation followed by the addition of an alkali solution to adjust the pH to between 8.0 and 9.0 for the best thickening efficiency. On the other hand, if the system to be thickened has a higher pH, it is recommended to dilute AET-729 with at least same amount of water for a better dispersion. An alkali solution is then added to adjust the pH to between 8.0 and 9.0. Application areas include any latex polymers, detergents, defoamers, cosmetic products, etc.
